If you cannot pay your tax on time, you may be able to arrange to pay your self-assessment tax liability in instalments. To do this you should contact HM Revenue & Customs on the Business Payment Support Service on 0300 200 3835 or arrange to pay in instalments via your Government Gateway account.
When are self-assessment UK tax returns due?
Self-assessment tax returns are due by 31 January following the end of the tax year if you are submitting the tax return electronically, or 31 October if you are submitting a paper tax return.
Can you pay self-assessment tax monthly?
You can arrange to pay your self-assessment tax liability monthly in advance by setting up a Budget Payment Plan. You can do this via your Government Gateway account in the direct debit section.
How is self-assessment tax calculated in the UK?
Self-assessment tax is calculated by adding together all taxable sources of income, deducting any allowable expenses and your personal allowance for the year and then applying the relevant rates of tax to each income source. Tax already paid at source can then be deducted from the liability.
